Attorney Knicole Emanuel has an interesting blog post about DOGE and CMS. CMS has over 6,000 employees and controls $1.5 trillion in spending (just for 2024). DOGE will be looking for waste by analyzing a lot of data. This may reduce fraud, but as we have already seen, put more pressure on clinicians to comply with ever-expanding documentation requirements.
“Fraud prevention and waste reduction will become the primary objectives of the heightened audits, ensuring that every dollar spent goes toward the healthcare of those who need it most.”
Ms. Emanuel likens CMS to the Titanic in terms of how hard it will be to turn such a massive ship. Let’s hope this story will end differently. Check out Ms. Emanuel’s entire article.
